‘09/’10 NSSA HAWAII CONFERENCE
GENERAL INFORMATION
HOW TO COMPETE IN THE NSSA HAWAII SEASON
1] TO REGISTER FOR THE 2090/10 SEASON GO TO www.nssa.org. This fee covers both the National & Hawaii memberships.
2] Mail entry forms and fee(s) to reach the NSSA HAWAII office by the MONDAY before the event you wish to enter. Slots may be limited to accommodate time requirements for the event. Beach entries will be accepted as long as slots are available.
3] There are no refunds.
4] Competitors in all divisions will receive ratings on an accumulative basis. Competitors who are prominently rated will be invited to compete in the NSSA HAWAII CHAMPIONSHIPS and the NSSA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. See 2009/10 rule book for NSSA Hawaii/National Championship qualifications and requirements. Complete rulebook posted at www.nssa.org.
5] You must compete in 5 total contests to qualify for the Hawaiian Regional Championships, which qualifies you to enter NSSA Nationals. All contests and sites are subject to change!
6] ONLY THE TOP 6 RATED SURFERS IN EACH DIVISION WILL BE ABLE TO SURF UP ANY DIVISION FOR 2009/10. If there is room we will add more in. Ratings from 2008/09 season will apply. If you want to surf up a division, cost will be $40.00 per division!!
7] All ages are of 1/1/10.
8] All competitors should go to www.nssahawaii.blogspot.com on the Thursday before the event for contest information.
9] Open Season Academic Requirements: Must be a full time student maintaining cumulative 2.0 GPA for the 2009/10 school year.
10] Explorer Season Academic Requirements: Competitors 18 and under must be a full time student maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA for the 2009/10 school year or show completion of High School.
11] It is the competitor’s responsibility to know and understand NSSA competition rules and academic requirements. NSSA rule book is online at www.nssa.org You also can click on service on this site and find the link to the Rule Book. Remeber Membership MUST also be done online. For this 2009-2010 season you may not become a member till July 2009.
12] If you bounce a check, you will be required to pay the NSSA in cash or money order $25.00, plus the amount of the check that bounced. If you bounce more than one check, only cash or money orders will be accepted.
NSSA CONTEST RULES
The following is a portion of the competition rules. All contestants should be familiar with all 2009/2010 rules before they compete.
1] TIME & NUMBER OF WAVES SCORED: All heats except for finals will be 15 minutes in duration. The best two waves will count towards advancement. Finals will be at least 15 minutes in duration and the top two waves will count. Format for finals may be changed by the Contest Director.
2] FORMAT & WAVE MAXIMUMS: All heats will be 6 man heats with a 10 wave maximum with the exception of the finals which will be a 15 wave maximum. The competitors should keep count of their own waves. If an extra wave is ridden within a heat, it shall be deemed an interference and the penalty is imposed as such. Competitors must return to the beach in the prone position following the completion of his/her heat. There will be a $15.00 fine per wave for anyone standing up after their heat is ove except for the final heat of the day (see 2009/10 rule book).
3] JUDGING: The scoring system will be 0.5 to 10.0 point system. Please read the 2009/10 competition rules or attend judges training to understand the criteria.
4] BEACH RULES: A competitor must check in at least 5 minutes before his/her heat begins. If you have not checked in before the five minute warning, you may be replaced by an alternate. At no time should a competitor be surfing in the contest area (unless you are in a heat). Any surfer who has to be told to leave the contest area may be disqualified from the event or assessed penalty as determined by the Contest Director. Competitors must wear their contest jerseys back to the officials’ area.
